Laying the screed in the Collections Zone

21 08 2013

Having once laid a very uneven quarry tile floor in a small kitchen, I’ve always wondered how a space such as our new Collections Zone ends up with a beautifully smooth surface over such a large expanse.

Until recently has area known as the Lions’ Den (see earlier blog posts) had an earth floor, covered over with a thin concrete layer to enable us to store various bits of kit. Since then, ISG have dug it out to a lower level to match the rest of the Gallery’s basement, fitted it out with service trenches and then laid a concrete slab.

The video shows a member of the ISG construction team laying the screed – highly skilled, but tough work!
