Latest bird's eye view

I’ve not been up onto the roof of the nearby student halls of residence on Denmark Road for some time, so it was exciting today to get this latest view. Our lovely yellow crane is being kept busy lowering shuttering into place to build the concrete walls, especially to the Landscape Gallery (see the last blog post for details of how visitors can gain access to the partially constructed space during the Manchester International Festival).

All the outer walls of the new building – while looking rather stark at present – will be faced with red brick in keeping with the original Victorian facade. Our architects, MUMA have worked hard to source reclaimed bricks for some areas and with manufacturers to make new bricks to match in others. In addition, the large expanse of wall facing onto Denmark Road will have a subtle brick pattern based on weave designs from the Gallery’s textile collection – watch this space and be delighted!
