There's a lot of scaffolding about

Today was the first time I’ve been on site for about a month and the changes are quite apparent – both inside and out – with huge quantities of scaffolding on the external site giving access to the new first floor levels, and, as the photograph shows, filling almost the whole interior of the exhibition galleries to provide access to the roof beams and skylights. We were able to climb right up to ceiling height, stand amongst the Victorian rafters and see where our contractors will be installing the much needed insulation which will all contribute to our planned passive environmental conditions and reductions in energy consumption and carbon emissions.

On a completely different note, we are delighted to be working with photographer Stephen Iles who has chosen the Whitworth to feature in a project to record cultural sites in transition. Cool Hunting have done an article / interview with Stephen regarding the Whitworth images which you can see at: http://www.coolhunting.com/culture/interview-stephen-iles-whitworth.php
